  • Android 9.0
  • 3000mAh battery
  • Dual camera setup
  • 4GB RAM
  • Snapdragon 636 chipset

Let’s take a closer look at what this phone has on offer…

Moto G7 Plus Review: Design & Display

The Moto G7 Plus design is extremely similar to the previous Moto G6 Plus phone.

This is not a bad thing as this phone was extremely well built. The G7 Plus has a curved glass back panel, which makes it comfortable to hold in your hand.

The Moto G7 Plus weighs a solid 176g, making it feel sturdy and premium when holding it in your hand.

The phone is available in two colours, either Deep Indigo or Viva Red. We were lucky enough to get our hands on the Deep Indigo colour for this review and we loved it.

One thing we should note is that with it being a glass design, the Moto G7 Plus will pick up fingerprint incredibly easily.

Motorola actually includes a soft protective plastic case in the box with this phone, meaning it stays in tip-top condition and adds to the protection of this device.

On the right-hand side of the phone is where you will find the power button and volume rocker. The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as a USB-C charging port.

You may be wondering is the Moto G7 Plus waterproof?

Well, the phone does not have an IP rating, meaning the Moto G7 Plus is not waterproof.

Seeing as though this is one of the cheap Motorola phones we expected this, although it does have a little trick up its sleeve.

Motorola states the phone does have a P2i water repellent layer on the design, meaning it is more splash resistant than other phones without this layer.

However, you really wouldn’t want this phone to take a dunk in the water, as it will cause some irreversible internal damage.

On the back of the phone is where you will find the dual-camera setup, it looks pretty cool too. Just underneath this is the Motorola logo, which actually doubles as a fingerprint sensor.

The sensor is pretty quick and is great for those that like to store passwords or bank information on their phone.

The Motorola G7 Plus display is a 6.2-inch Full HD LCD panel that almost fills the whole front of the phone.

The display does have a small teardrop notch, which is nice to see on this phone as it makes way for a lot more real estate on the device.

This means that the Moto G7 Plus gives a great media experience, ideal for those that like to binge watch Netflix and YouTube on their smartphone.

The HD panel results in crisp visuals, with bright and punchy colours.

With a resolution of 1080 x 2270, the Moto G7 Plus display really is one of the best aspects of this phone.

Brightness levels are decent, so using the phone in direct sunlight should not be an issue.

However, don’t expect the deep black like you would expect with an OLED as remember this is an LCD display.

Three colour modes are available in the settings which each have their own benefits, natural, vivid and saturated.

All do a great job to enhance your media experience, from viewing movies on Netflix to gaming on the phone.

Moto G7 Plus Review: Performance

The Moto G7 Plus runs Android 9.0 Pie right out of the box, this is the latest version of the OS and ensures that the phone is future proof and has the latest features.

Motorola has kept the UI extremely clean, meaning it is user-friendly and extremely easy to navigate.

The UI is super customisable allowing you to change home screens to how you prefer, Motorola has implemented lots of cool gestures to play around with.

Our favourite gesture has to be the double wrist flick that opens the camera app, and giving the phone a swift karate chop will activate the flash.

The software allows other features too, like ‘Peak Screen’, this essentially allows you to wave your hand over the phone’s display, and this will give you a peek at the time, date and anything else you set.

Making it extremely convenient to quickly check if you have notifications without actually unlocking the phone.

One thing we should note with the phone is that it does not have features such as ‘Digital Wellbeing’, meaning you will need to keep an eye on your social media use yourself, as without this feature there is no option to stay in control of your usage.

The Motorola G7 Plus performance isn’t lacking either; it runs from the Snapdragon 636 CPU and a beefy 4GB of RAM.

This combination ensures the phone runs smoothly when gaming, watching media and browsing through social media. We found the phone to be quite a little faster than the previous Moto G6 Plus.

We did test the G7 Plus on some of our favourite games, the first being PUBG.

This game is graphically demanding, so we did have to play the game in low graphic settings and noticed some lag and fps drops.

If you are serious about gaming on your mobile handset, then we would recommend checking out our Honor Play review, as this phone copes with demanding games a lot better.

The Moto G7 Plus has 64GB of internal storage, meaning there is lots of room for storing photos, music and apps.

If you find that this is not enough, then you do have the option of adding a microSD card that will allow you to go all the way up to 1TB of storage!

The G7 Plus has a strong speak set up, helped by the Dolby Audio support, this really enhances the overall experience when gaming and viewing content on Netflix.

As a whole the Moto G7 Plus specification is impressive, however this is by no means a gaming handset.

Moto G7 Plus Review: Camera

The Motorola Moto G7 Plus camera is a dual-camera setup with a 16-megapixel Sony sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor for them Bokeh shots.

This set up is high class and ensures that images come out crisp with lots of detail. We love that the Moto G7 Plus has OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) as this is usually only featured on the higher-end smartphone.

OIS ensures that the image is stabilised to reduce the amount of blur.

We found that even when shooting subjects that were moving, the Moto G7 Plus camera does a great job at stabilising the shot resulting in a detailed, clear image.

One feature we love with the camera is the ‘Smart Composition’ feature, this uses AI tech to come into the shot and straighten it out if it is a little off-set.

Portrait shots look awesome thanks to the 5-megapixel depth sensor, you can expect Instagram worthy shots almost immediately when shooting in this mode.

The Moto G7 Plus is preset in auto-mode, but for those that love to dig into the settings, there is also a manual mode too.

We found ourselves sticking to auto mode, as colours pop and images end up coming out with plenty of detail.

Sometimes images can come out a little too oversaturated; however, this is to be expected for a phone at this price point.

Even when shooting in low light situations, the Moto G7 Plus camera holds its own and images don’t suddenly take a huge hit.

Dynamic range and contrast are strong, ensuring that there is good subject separation when shooting either in the dark or light.

One cool feature we love is the ‘Auto Smile Mode’; this does exactly what it says on the tin and can turn that frown upside down.

This works well for group photos or taking photos with that one miserable friend. Around the front of the phone there is a 12-megapixel selfie snapper, perfect for taking quick selfies for Instagram or Snapchat.

This camera performs well in both low light and good lighting conditions.

The phone also lets you use the whole display as a flash if needed, ideal for taking selfies in the dark.

When it comes to video recording, the Moto G7 Plus can record in Full HD at 30/60fps, where you can bump up to 4K resolution if needed.

Quality is perfect and thanks to the OIS, videos come out stabilised without the need for a tripod or a super steady hand.

At a whole the Motorola Moto G7 Plus camera set up is strong, for this price point we were extremely impressed, the phone delivered high-quality pictures time and time again.

Throughout this Moto G7 Plus review, we found the camera to be extremely impressive, the fact it has OIS is awesome at this price point.

Moto G7 Plus Review: Battery Life

The Moto G7 Plus battery is a 3000mAh power pack that is slightly smaller than last years 3200mAh.

That being said we could easily get a full day of use out of the phone, even when using the phone for games, videos and more.

We did find that viewing content on the likes of YouTube and Netflix does drain the battery significantly quicker, so it may be an idea to bring a charger with you if you are using the phone for this purpose.

The good thing about this Moto G7 Plus battery is that it comes with a 27W Turbo Power charger, with a supported plug in the box.

  • Refined 3D glass design. Feel the comfort and premium quality of contoured Corning Gorilla Glass and a water-repellent design

This means that it charges INCREDIBLY fast, you can get from 0-80% in just 30 minutes!

This is easily one of the fastest charging phones we have used and we feel this makes up for the smaller cell.

We did notice that the phone does get a little hot whilst charging, however this is to be expected as the power flowing through the charger is nuts!

There is no wireless charging on this phone, unfortunately, but we think that the speed it charges it would be unnecessary anyway, as it’s only on charge for a very small amount of time before you are juiced up and ready to go again.

Moto G7 Plus Review: Summary

So is this phone worth your money?

Well if you are looking for a smartphone that has a well-built design, strong display and an incredible battery, then yes!

When compared to the likes of the Moto E5 Play this phone really is on a different level.

That being said if you are specifically looking to purchase a handset for gaming purposes, then we would recommend you check out our Honor Play review.

The Moto G7 Plus camera is impressive, but the likes of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite definitely beat this phone in that department too.

motorola moto g7 6.24-Inch Android 9.0 Pie UK Sim-Free Smartphone with 4GB RAM and 64GB Storage (Dual Sim) – Black (Exclusive to Amazon)

The G7 Plus is a strong all-rounder, we love how fast this phone charges at it beats all of its competitors at this price point.

Overall the Moto G7 Plus is great, although there are some better alternatives for those who are looking for a more niche handset.

Unfortunately, the Moto G7 Plus is not waterproof, which means you need to be very careful when using the phone around water.

Considering this is one of the cheap Motorola phones, we were extremely impressed with this device.

We hope you have enjoyed out Moto G7 Plus review and feel free to leave a comment and share, also check out the best Moto G7 Plus contract deals at the top of this post.
