So you’re interested in the Oppo Find X?

Well in this Oppo Find X review we will be giving you everything you need to know to make an informed purchase decision, whilst showcasing the best Oppo Find X contract deals in the UK.

The Oppo Find X was released back in 2018 on the 19th of June in Paris.

Easily one of the cleanest and best-looking smartphone out there to date, the Oppo Find X gives users some serious value for money.

Check out these Oppo Find X deals…

Currently priced at £799 here in the UK, but attainable on contract with the likes of EE for around £58 per month.

Here is some of what you can expect from the Oppo Find X;

  • Stunning design
  • 4-inch Full HD+ Panoramic Arc Screen
  • 256GB Internal Storage
  • 8GB RAM
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Processor

This manufacturer is largely unheard of across the UK, but in China, they are a huge player in the smartphone market.

They make fantastic phones like the Oppo RX17 Pro, and if you haven’t seen that phone we recommend you check it out.

One of the best features of the Oppo Find X is the no-notch display, it looks incredible and makes for a flawless media experience.

Let’s take a look at what the Oppo Find X has to offer…

Oppo Find X Review: Design & Display

Undoubtedly one of the best aspects of the Oppo Find X is its stunning design.

The Oppo Find X design is awesome, available in two colours, a Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue, we were lucky enough to get out hands on the Red colour phone for a couple of days to conduct this review.

Towards the edges of the device is where the aluminous colour gets brighter and brighter, it looks awesome when the light catches it.

One of the first things we noticed about the Oppo Find X, is the curved glass on the front and back, it has a metal frame and feels great in the hand.

We did find that the frame is rather flimsy and weak though, so be sure not to put this phone in a position where it could bend, as this could be disastrous.

On the right side of the phone is where you will find the power button, and then the opposite on the left is where the volume rockers are placed.

Down at the bottom of the phone is where the USB-C charging port is placed, along with a MicroSD slot and a single bottom-firing speaker, however you won’t find a headphone jack on this phone.

When flipping the phone over, it’s extremely clean; there is the Oppo branding towards the top, and the model branding towards the bottom.

The phone weighs in at a hefty 186g, this is pretty heavy for a smartphone thanks to all that glass, so it gives it a nice premium feel in your hand.

One of the main design features of this phone is that there are no rear cameras immediately displayed on the back, nor is there a selfie cam on the front.

This is because to take any photos on the device you must first swipe up, this reveals the camera setup; it’s a pretty cool feature and allows you to have more real estate on the display.

OPPO Find X 8GB RAM and 256GB Storage 6.4-Inch Dual SIM Smartphone - Blue
  • OPPO has always pursued perfection. With no holes visible on the screen and the unified design, OPPO Find X offers exceptional smooth handling and exudes pure beauty. Any time or place, the OPPO Find X will be the center of attention
  • OPPO Find X has two innovative gradient colors - Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue, which gleam like a precious gemstone. In order to create the flow like gradient effect, we used an innovative multifaceted color process, so that the phone will shine elegantly at different angles
  • The stealth 3D cameras are not just hidden but contain a number of innovative technologies: 3D Face Recognition system, front camera, rear dual camera and many intricate sensors. The state of the art stealth 3D cameras will redefine smartphone photography
  • OPPO Find X is the first Android smartphone to feature 3D Structured Light Technology. Using 15,000 facial dot recognition and intelligent analysis, 3D Face Recognition is 20 times safer than fingerprint recognition for unlocking the phone
  • OPPO Find X's rear camera is equipped with a dual-lens module and OIS that can produce excellent depth-of-field effects. Also, with the all new AI Scene Recognition technology, OPPO Find X can identify 800 scenes to become your "photography technique consultant. " Now you can effortlessly shoot photos that tell great stories

You may be wondering is the Oppo Find X waterproof?

Well, the problem with such a mechanism is that the Oppo Find X is NOT waterproof, meaning if you drop this phone in any water, then it’s a goner.

The slider does move in under pressure, so if you drop the device it will automatically retract inside the phone, giving it some sense of durability.

You won’t need to keep sliding it up and down every time you want to take a photo, as it does this automatically.

Taking phone calls is easy too, as there is a grill where the earpiece is on the front of the phone, so you don’t need to slide up the panel for this.

Moving onto the display, now thanks to the fact that the rear cameras are hidden away behind the sliding mechanism, this means there is a ton more space for the display.

The Oppo Find X has a stunning 6.4-inch AMOLED display, with a 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution, with a whopping 93.8% screen-to-body-ratio.

The Oppo Find X display actually melts around the side of the phone, making for a much better media experience and a more premium glass.

The display is made from Gorilla Glass 5, as you would expect from a flagship phone, this protects the device and ensures that its less prone to cracks or scratches.

As a whole the display looks great, colours are rich and vibrant and viewing Netflix and YouTube on this device is a dream, however, it is not Quad HD+ unfortunately.

There is a comfort mode in the settings too, this helps when using the device at night time so its doesn’t damage your eyes, colour temperature can also be adjusted if it’s a little warm for you.

One of the best things about the phone is that the Oppo Find X display literally has no bezel, meaning you get a true edge-to-edge display apart from a small chin at the bottom.

As the phone doesn’t have a bezel, this means it doesn’t have an LED to notify you when you receive a notification, so instead it lights up the whole borders of the phone when you receive a notification.

This is super unique and if you’re in a low lighting environment, and it’s easy to know once you have received a notification thanks to the device lighting up like a Christmas tree.

Brightness levels are also very strong on the Oppo Find X thanks to its AMOLED display, so you will have no issues using this phone in direct sunlight, however different viewing angles do result in the colour shift.

Overall the Oppo Find X display is strong, it has some cool features when receiving notifications, and a great viewing and media experience with the curved edges making it look awesome.

Oppo Find X Review: Performance

When it comes to the performance aspect of the Oppo Find X, we were extremely impressed; the device literally flies through everyday tasks thanks to its powerful specifications.

You can expect the Snapdragon 845 chipset alongside 8GB of RAM.

This chipset is one of the best available in an Android phone; it also has the Adreno 630 GPU making it a serious performance monster.

One thing we did notice as that the sound quality isn’t great, we definitely recommend investing into some good headphones if you’re going to purchase this phone and be listening to lots of music, it’s not bad but it’s certainly not up there with the best.

The Oppo Find X is also Dual-SIM, meaning you can place your personal number and your business number in the same phone, this is great and it means if you have a work phone you don’t need to carry 2 physical devices around with you.

Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t have a MicroSD slot, so you will need to make do with the internal storage, this isn’t all bad as it has a strong 256GB of internal memory.

This is plenty for those that love to download music and videos on to their phone, and even 64GB tends to be enough for most people. We tested the device out on a couple of demanding games, the first being Runescape.

This game is very taxing on mobile device, however, we found the Oppo Find X’s performance specification to handle it just fine.

The game ran smoothly and we didn’t notice any significant fps drops or latency, we then moved onto Minecraft which is another demanding game on mobile.

This ran just as good and we found ourselves immersed in the gameplay for hours, this was also due to the fantastic display that the Oppo Find X has and it had us literally glued to the phone.

The phone actually has game space software on board, this essentially optimises the phone for gameplay as and when you open a game, so if you open PUBG for example, the phone will reallocate memory and silence notifications to enhance your gameplay for you.

Throughout this Oppo Find X review, we found the performance aspect of this phone to be the most impressive.

The Oppo Find X has cutting edge software too, it runs from Android 8.1 Oreo which is super easy to navigate and get used to even if your switching over from IOS.

That being said it is far from standard Android and has a lot of customisations, one downfall is that it doesn’t have an app drawer, so everything is kept on the home screen.

There are multiple of pre-installed apps on the phone, that being said the Find X is very well optimised so it certainly doesn’t feel bloated.

There are also a bunch of themes and wallpapers you can choose to customise your device, there are also a ton of gestures to choose from that are also customisable.

One super-annoying thing we did notice with this phone, is that you can’t simply dismiss a notification with a single swipe; it requires a swipe and tap.

This may sound like a minor inconvenience, but trust me, it gets super annoying when using the phone throughout the day, think how many times you dismiss a notification throughout the day, and then double the effort.

Now the Oppo Find X does have a one-handed mode, however its not the easiest to use, so we found ourselves using the ‘assistive ball’ to navigate around the UI.

This is because the one-handed mode sits up top on the notification panel, meaning if you have small hands like us, you need to stretch your hand and for us, that wasn’t an option.

There is another small inconvenience that we should mention too, the Find X will automatically switch between keyboards, from using the default keyboard it will sometimes switch to Google’s G keyboard, this doesn’t sound like an annoyance but the fact that the button is different on each keyboard gets very frustrating.

As a whole the Oppo Find X software is good, although it does have some annoying aspects, it’s easy to use and we love how customisable it is with different themes and home screens.

Oppo Find X Review: Camera

So how does the Oppo Find X camera fair up?

Well, it’s actually pretty impressive, simply tapping on the camera application in the phone will pop up the slider, making you armed and ready to snap some impressive shots.

The Find X has a dual camera set up on the rear, with 16MP + 25MP sensors both with f/2.0 apertures, these work together to give you the best shot possible with lots of detail and depth.

There is a built-in expert mode that lets you manually adjust the camera controls, but Oppo has talked up the AI capabilities of this device more than anything.

The Oppo Find X camera boasts scene recognition just like is seen in the Huawei device, this works well to detect the scene you are taking a shot in and adjusts the camera settings accordingly.

This works well for the most part but it is down to whether you agree with the AI shot the phone has taken, as sometimes we found it would oversaturate images.

When taking shots with the Oppo Find X in daylight, we found the images to be extremely detailed and colours looked vibrant and punchy.

Dynamic range is high too, even without HDR, as HDR shots tend to come out a little too sharp.

Now the Oppo Find X does have 2x digital zoom, although its nothing too techy as we found it was just the same when cropped on a PC.

The phone has some pretty impressive modes, one being ‘beauty mode’, this is great for those that love a social media-worthy shot, without any editing or hard work, this mode sharpens your jawline and will smooth over any imperfections on your face.

There is also an interesting ‘Custom 3D Beautified Look’ that will use AI to apply certain tweaks to the structure of your face, although we found that this didn’t work too well especially if you have long hair or facial hair.

Shots in low light situations also look great, they have great contrast and lots of detail, we had no complaints when using the device in low light, perfect for them Insta worthy shots ready for the gram.

Moving onto the selfie camera, the Oppo Find X has a 25MP sensor, the same levels of detail and clarity can be said for the selfie cam too.

The portrait mode works perfect and there are plenty of modes you can use on the selfie camera too, we loved the slow-motion mode as it made some hilarious shots.

Video recording on the Oppo Find X is impressive too, the phone can record in 4K at 30fps, very impressive with high dynamic range and strong contrast, however, there is no digital stabilisation.

However, there is OIS, meaning you won’t need a super steady hand to record some decent video footage.

Oppo Find X Review: Battery Life

The Oppo Find X has a 3730mAh battery; this is more than enough to get the average user through 2 days of use maximum.

That being said this depends on how you are going to be using the device, if you’re going to be streaming HD footage and watching lots of Netflix on the phone, then you will find that this device drains a lot quicker.

One of the best features of the Oppo Find X is the 20W fast charging tech, this charges the phone lightning fast and you can expect to go from 0-100% in just under an hour!

We would have loved to seen wireless charging on this device, however it wasn’t a deal-breaker for us as the phone does charge super quick so not much time is spent plugged into the cable anyway.

Overall the Oppo Find X battery is impressive, it charges super quick and has lots of longevity too, and we had no real complaints in this department.

Oppo Find X Review: Summary

So is the Oppo Find X worth your hard-earned cash?

Well if you’re looking for a unique device that offers a fantastic display with a beautiful design, then yes.

However one of the main downsides of the Oppo Find X is that it is not waterproof, so if you listen to music in the shower or in the tub then you need to be super careful.

On the upside the performance of the Find X is superb, it can handle literally anything you throw at it without breaking a sweat, its perfect for gamers or those who simply demand a fast and responsive phone.
